Prof. Basil Chukwuemeka Nwankwo is not just an erudite African academia who is widely respected for his integrity and career accomplishments, he is also an expert in the areas of Public Administration, Political Science, Financial Management, Local Government Studies and Education. He is the Former Director of Business Studies, Kogi State University, Anyigba.
Born when great men are given birth to, at Ufuma, Orumba-North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
He obtained the Bachelor of Science in Political Science (1984); Master of Science in Public Administration (1987); Post Graduate Diploma in Education (1988); Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Political Science (1993) all from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Nwankwo was installed a Professor in 2006. He had taught at Urban Girls Secondary School, Nsukka, Enugu State; Oshogbo Grammar School, Oshogbo, Osun State before he got involved in teaching at tertiary level. He worked as a lecturer at the College of Education, Eha-Amufu, Enugu State for Four(4) years before he was employed at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). He was the Head of Department of Public Administration and Local Government Studies at UNN between 2000 – 2002. After wards, he joined the Kogi State University, Anyigba. He was formerly the Head of Department of Public Administration of the Institution from 2006 – 2010. He was also the former Dean, Faculty of Management Science, of the Kogi State University between 2008 – 2014.
He has been External Examiner at several tertiary institutions including, but not limited to Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife, University of Lagos, Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Anambra State University, Uli and Administrative Staff College (ASCON) Topo Badagry, Lagos (mention but a few).
This erudite scholar, Prof. Nwankwo has contributed in the making of many Associate Professors and Professors of some reputable Nigerian Universities which include Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU), University of Jos, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife, Etc. (The list is exhaustive).
He has made some important contributions in the development and standardization of Education Quality Assurance in Nigeria Universities through the performance of numerous assignments for the National Universities Commission (NUC) both as a panel member and Chairman of Accreditation Teams to reputable Tertiary Institutions such as Tafawa Balewa University of Bauchi, University of Benin, University of Ilorin, University of Oyo and University of Jos etc. The list is too many to name all.
Prof. Basil Nwankwo has attended and presented papers at several distinguished conferences and seminars within and outside Nigeria. He has authored several books which deal on various subjects in politics and public administration. Some of his published text books include; Authority in Government; Nigeria and World Politics in Focus; Politics of Budgetary Process and Financial Management in Nigeria, Issues in Local Government Administration in Nigeria and Decision Making and Implementing process among others.
He belongs to several professional and academic organizations including the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, the Charted Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, the Nigerian Institute of Management, the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration of Nigeria, the Nigerian Teachers Council and the United Action Against Corruption and Injustice International.
Prof. Nwankwo has been honoured with several Merit Awards some of which include; Award for Incorruptible Icons in Nigeria , 2008; African Merit Award for Integrity, Accountability and Transparency in Leadership 2009; Fellow Incorruptible Icons in Africa (FIIIA) 2010, African Peace Prize Award 2010 and A Lion of High Achievement (ALOHA) 2011, by the University of Nigeria Alumni Association.
Prof. Basil Chukwuemeka Nwankwo is happily married to a lady of quintessence Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria Ifeyinwa Nwankwo, a Medical Doctor with Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi. The Family is blessed with four children.
