Dr. Fortunatus C. Ezebuo is currently a faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Before he joined Nnamdi Azikiwe University, he served as a faculty member in the Department of Biochemistry, College of Natural and Applied Sciences, Chrisland University, Abeokuta from October, 2018 to March, 2019. Again, he worked as voluntary research/teaching assistant at the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University from March, 2012 to November, 2018. Fortunatus is married to Goodness Ezebuo.

My current research interest focuses on computer-aided drug design/discovery for neglected tropical diseases/conditions especially schistosomiasis, emerging/re-emerging diseases especially ebola virus, lassa virus and flaviviruses, cancer, effects of amino acid mutations on proteins. The drug design/discovery efforts make use of approaches like molecular docking simulations, molecular dynamics simulations, sequence analysis, chemoinformatics etc. In particular, I am interested in using these methods/approaches for structure-based drug design and elucidation of molecular mechanism of receptor-ligand interactions. Available state-of-the-art computational software for this type of computations include GROMACS, VMD, PyMol, LigPlot+, AutodockVina, Dataworrior, in-house programs and other miscellaneous programs. I am also collaborating with experts (For example, Daniel Růžek and his team, https://www.paru.cas.cz/en/staff/profile/71/) with track records in wet-laboratory for validation of computer predicted findings.

Research Grants I am involved in are:
1. Research Assistant: Drug Repurposing for Lassa Fever Virus: A New Treatment Option. National Research Fund (NRF), 2019 Grant. Thirty-five million naira (N 35, 000, 000) only. Grant Number: TETFund/DR&D/CE/NRF/STI/24/VOL1. Year of study: 2020 – 2021. PI: Ikemefuna C. Uzochukwu
