Dr Jacinta Chinyere ELO-ILO is a senior lecturer and an honorary consultant Paediatrician with the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) Awka and Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Nnewi, Anambra State respectively.
She was one of the pioneer medical students of NAU and graduated in February 1996 as the best graduating medical student with distinctions in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and was best in Paediatrics. She has a fellowship in Paediatrics from West African College of Physicians (October 2007) and a Masters degree in Nutrition and Dietetics (August 2018) from Imo State University Owerri.
She is in charge of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition unit of NAUTH Nnewi and also the current co coordinator of the Baby Friendly hospital initiative of NAUTH Nnewi whose primary function is to promote, protect and support exclusive breastfeeding and optimal child nutrition, growth and development.
Dr Elo-Ilo is a post graduate examiner in Paediatrics to West African College of Physicians and an external examiner for undergraduate medical students of Madonna University Ellele Rivers State. She is the coordinator of Residency training in her department and has successfully supervised and mentored many undergraduate and postgraduate students in Paediatrics.Interest Includes: CURRENT RESEARCH INTEREST
Dr J.C. ELO-ILO is interested in growth and development of children especially the under fives and adolescents. Her interest is in both macronutrient (under weight and overweight/obesity) and micronutrient deficiency diseases especially Zinc, Iodine and Iron. She is also interested in adolescent sexuality, Health economics /financing and Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs (AMS).
The following are her ongoing research works
1) Nutritional and disease related risk factors of malnutrition among primary school children in Nnewi Southeast Nigeria.
2) Cost of Management of acute watery diarrhea in children aged 6-36months presenting to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi, Southeast Nigeria.
3) Iodine status of primary school children in Nnewi North Local Government Area, Anambra state Nigeria.
4) Serum levels of Vitamin D in Children with diarrhea aged 6-59months in a tertiary institution, Southeast Nigeria.
5) Relevance of Urine Malaria Test (UMT) in the diagnosis of malaria among febrile children aged 1-10years in NAUTH, Nnewi Southeast Nigeria.
6) Survey of perception, attitude and practices of antimicrobial stewardship among health workers in a Nigerian university teaching hospital.
