Ikechukwu Mbachu is a senior lecturer in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He obtained his bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree from the University of Ibadan in 2002. He proceeded to do his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and is a fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and West African College of Surgeons. His dissertation " Evaluation of Accuracy of Rapid test Algorithm among Pregnant women won the Ola memorial prize for the Best dissertation in the Part 2 examination of the National Post Graduate in the Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He joined the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in 2014 after working at Imo State Univeristy as Lecturer 1. He is currently in the Materno-Fetal unit of the department of Obsterics and Gynaecology, Nnamdi Azikiwe University where he has conducted several research including severe maternal outcome of pregnancy, perinatal mortality, mother to child transmission of HIV infections, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy etc.Interest Includes: Research interests including reduction adverse maternal and perinatal outcome of pregnancy, Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, reduction of transmittable maternal infections in pregnancy, maternal nutrition during pregnancy, Obstetrics Ultrasound and in-utero fetal reprogramming.
He is the current Faculty of Medicine Examination Officer. He is former Examination and ICT officer in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He is the pioneer Editor in Chief of Afrimedic journal, and past associate editor of Nigerian Journal of Medicine.
He has served as external examiner of 4th MBBS examination at Imo State University and Chukwuemeka Odimegwu University. He is also an examiner in the faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
He is a former president of the association of resident doctors, NAUTH branch.
